CHARLTON boss Phil Parkinson admits he would like to extend Notts County defender Johnnie Jackson’s loan stay at The Valley.

The 27-year-old is halfway through a 28-day temporary stay in SE7 and has impressed since making his debut in the 2-0 win over Yeovil.

Parkinson knows his left back options are very limited after Grant Basey was recently ruled out for the rest of the season and Kelly Youga continues to struggle against an on-going problem which has blighted his campaign.

However, the Addicks boss conceded the club’s financial predicament means there are no guarantees yet Jackson will stay.

Parkinson said: “I would like to keep Johnnie Jackson and he has done well for us.

“Obviously financially that is going to be a tight one I should imagine but I think he is a good player.

“Grant Basey is out for the season and it leaves us short in that department.

“Kelly Youga is still not back in training, so I would like to keep Johnnie Jackson.

“He wants to stay because he has certain family issues which means he wants to be in the London area as well.”

The manager added: “If the chairman asked me if I want to keep Johnnie Jackson, it would be a resounding yes.

“Hopefully we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

“Of course I have already discussed with the chairman whether we can keep him but it is whether we can find the money to do that.

“Things are tight and it isn’t easy, but I’m sure we will do everything we can to keep him.”
