Top service from south-east side

South East London Service Area under-14s produced one of the performances of the season, defeating division champions and local rivals South London Service Area 34-12.

The local rugby league development side beat previously undefeated South London with a first try for Joe Jones and other scores for Joe Stockton and Sam Copper. But it was a victory won by a real team effort in which powerful forward Craig Rogers played a leading role.

Standing out for the local side were the six exceptional players who have been chosen to represent South London in their year group of the annual Origin Series against North London. They are Joe Stockton, Tom Claridge, Richard Gunter, Aiden Oakley, Joe Millington and Phil Wilson.

The win brings to an end a successful Service Area season, which has seen an ever greater number of young people take an interest in the sport of rugby league.

However, local side Greenwich Admirals is delighted to announce that many of the South East London Service Area stars will be continuing to play for the club this summer.

Training for the Admirals under-11, 13 and 15s takes place each Wednesday night at 7pm on the Charlton Park training pitch.

All local young people are welcome to come and join the Admirals' youth sides regardless of if you have played any rugby league before or not. Call Alan Bacon on 07734 082754 or by email at: youth_at_greenwichrl@ hotmail.com for details.

Greenwich Admirals' youth development officer, Alan Bacon, said: "This was a fabulous performance, which shows what talented and determined young people they are.

"I am very proud that so many have been picked for the Origin game, although there are many more who must have been very close and I know that the members of this side have huge futures in rugby league.

"It will be good to have them available for the Greenwich Admirals' youth sides. We have already been very impressed with the large numbers of young people who have taken up the challenge to join the Admirals and training with more experienced lads will only help them."

The Greenwich Admirals' men London League campaign also began with a brave performance in defeat away to a strong West London Sharks' side.

The Admirals went ahead early on through outstanding forward Robert James, but could not build on the score and eventually went down 32-6 as the Sharks' strong pack got on a roll, despite good displays from Tony Peach, Chris Jones and Neil Roberts.
