BOTH Dartford and Welling took the opportunity to give squad members a bit of a run out in last night’s Kent Senior Cup second round tie at Princes Park.

For Darts, Joao Carlos had 83 minutes of action before the cumulative affect of close attention got the better of him, while Elliott Bradbrook had a good hour of activity before being retired for Danny Harris.

The pre-match news which filtered through concerning the acquisition of Carl Rook from Tonbridge Angels got the home fans chattering favourably and the enthusiasm for the fare on display was increased accordingly.

Welling paraded a mixture of Blue Square South regulars and academy players, though most names were known to supporters of both sides.

It was a thoroughly entertaining feast laid before the public with both sides keen to attack the other.

Indeed, it was surprising the game stood at 0-0 come the interval.

Welling, though, changed all that five minutes after the turn-round when Michael Bakare came in from the left to fire a low shot past Tony Kessell.

For much of the second half, Darts’ fans concentrated on appreciating Carlos’ trickery.

This was obviously lost on the visitors’ Chris Saunders, who gave the young wide man a torrid time which a less tolerant official may well have marked with a red card.

He was, however, withdrawn on 78 minutes.

Be that as it may, the lively Adam Burchell levelled matters with a typical goal four minutes later but two late strikes from Adam Marsh settled matters in Welling’s favour.
