Sharks Swimming Club sent teams to two different galas on the same day, winning a combined total of 43 medals.

At Enfield Pool, an 11-strong Sharks' squad took part in the Greater London Special Olympics Regional Championships, winning 26 medals of which seven were golds.

Chislehurst's Matthew McDaid was in treble-winning form when first in the 25m breaststroke and freestyle, plus the 75m individual medley, as well as taking a silver in the 25m backstroke.

Rebecca Harding, from Lewisham, won double gold in the 25m backstroke and breaststroke, plus a bronze in the 25m freestyle. She also won the junior girls' trophy.

Welling's Adam Baker won his gold in the 25m backstroke, plus silver in the 25m breaststroke.

Stephen Hart, who travels up from Faversham to train at Sharks' base at the Eric Liddell Centre, in Mottingham, won the club's other gold in the 75m individual medlay.

He also won silvers in the 25m backstroke and freestyle, plus a bronze in the breaststroke.

He also won the junior boys' trophy; James Gray (Sidcup), silver: 25m freestyle; bronze: 25m breaststroke; Caroline Gray (Sidcup), bronze: 25m breaststroke; Clare Sawyer (Mottingham), silver: 25m breaststroke; bronze: 25m backstroke.

Sharks were also the overall club winners.

Meanwhile, a 12-strong squad travelled to Guildford for the annual gala held at the Spectrum Leisure Centre, winning 17 medals.

Erith's Sarah-Louise Casey was the star of the team's show by winning two golds in the 100 metres freestyle and individual medley, as well as a silver as part of the 4x25m freestyle relay squad.

Sarah-Louise was the only gold medal winner, but that did not stop the rest of the squad from performing well.

Jason Hills, from Beckenham, won double silver in the 100m freestyle and individual medley, improving his personal best by three seconds in both races.

Sarah Paschoud, from Forest Hill, also won two silvers in her 50m backstroke and butterfly, improving her lifetime bests by one and seven seconds respectively, while Chislehurst's Laura Mitchell won her double silver in the 50m breaststroke and 4x25m freestyle relay.

Kate Sheriden, from Mottingham, was the Sharks' other dual silver medalist. She gained hers in the 50m freestyle (two-second lifetime best) and 50m breaststroke.

Spare a thought for Lewisham's Joseph Peciuch. He won bronze in the 50m freestyle, but was given a speeding ticket disqualfied for bettering his personal best by a staggering four-and-a-half seconds in the 25m freestyle.

Other results at Guildford: Iain Ambrose (Swanley), bronze: 100m freestyle; Corinne Beckett (Orpington), silver: 4x25m freestyle relay; Jack Conie (Bexley), silver: 25m freestyle; Tina Rushbrook (Erith), bronze: 50m backstroke (two-second personal best) & 50m breaststroke; Matthew Griffiths (Erith), fourth, 50m freestyle (two-second personal best); Ben Summers (Brockley), outside medals medals but swam well.
