VCD chalked off their 6th win of the season and their 5th at Oakwood in this 1-0 win over Cheshunt in atrocious conditions.
With a severe wind doing its best to spoil any football being played it is fair to say that the visitors had the better of the first half as the Vickers struggled to play their normal game.
The first half was a poor display of football with the ball constantly going out of play but Cheshunt tried to play a fast counter-attacking game with one forward deployed up front.
In the second half the game sprung into life with the introduction of Kevin Winchcombe for James Duckworth for VCD and a change in formation.
Vicker's top scorer Nick Hegley almost opened the scoring as Leroy Huggins sent in a deep cross from the right that found Hegley and his right foot curling effort cannoned off the post and was hacked to safety.
VCD's Gary Ward was at the centre of the action and his continual driving forward brought about the games only goal as a ball forward from Ward resulted in a corner as Meshach Nugent was tackled by the touchline.
As Hegley's corner was cleared Ward sent the ball out wide to the left winger who cut inside his man and sent a fierce swirling drive that moved in the wind and flew straight over the keeper's head.
Only two minutes later Hegley and Huggins combined again when the former's deep cross found Huggins unmarked at the far post where his downward header was well saved by the Cheshunt keeper.
Cheshunt had chances of their own with a rasping drive skimming off James Tedder's crossbar and a goal disallowed for offside.
With their third clean sheet in their last four league games the Vickers saw off any threat with some experienced defending and recorded another home win to move them up to 12th in the league.
VCD head to 5th placed Enfield Town on Saturday 28th November before heading to Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday 1st December, then its back to Oakwood for the visit of Wingate and Finchley on Saturday 5th December.
