MEMBERS of the MyFootballClub website face an important month as they vote to remodel and float struggling Ebbsfleet United up the league.

Launched in April 2007, MyFootballClub promised a mixture of the football manager experience and levels of club engagement as sought by the majority of football club societies or trusts.

A total of 53,000 registered their interest, with more than 21,000 members being registered at the time MYFC took 75% ownership of Ebbsfleet United almost two years ago.

Since February 2008, MYFC members and the fans of Ebbsfleet United have sailed both calm seas and experienced choppy waters.

In March 2008, the club reached the final of the FA Trophy and members travelled from over 20 countries to Wembley Stadium to be a part of the 26,000 Ebbsfleet crowd who cheered the club on to a 1-0 victory over Torquay in May.

Since then the club has benefited from MYFC member led initiatives to fund the purchase of Michael Gash and Darius Charles, while 7,000 members voted on the sale of striker John Akinde to Bristol City.

There has also been member involvement in the setting of ticket prices, the selection of team kit/manufacturer and a free admission match, although the pick the team process has yet to see a member selected side take the field.

All of this is history and it’s a very different reality which faces both MYFC and the club itself.

Ebbsfleet United sit second bottom of the Blue Square Premier, with only nine points from 20 games and their FA Cup campaign was ended before the first round by a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Bromley. Like a lot of clubs, there are some doubts as to the level they will be able to sustain themselves at.

While it’s not as bad as has been seen at Weymouth, Gretna or even Coleraine, a series of key votes running up to the end of the month will give everyone a clearer picture of where they stand.

MyFC are hoping this will also entice new or even recently departed members to get involved.

Votes to change the membership fee, take on the operator agreement from creator Will Brooks and whether to remodel or drop the pick the team idea will shape MYFC. Pick The team itself has the potential to return MYFC to something close to the 32,000 members it once had.

There is, for example, a commitment to provide more match coverage and scouting information to support pick the team.

Taking on the operator agreement should see more member involvement, as the society would take on running the website and other areas at the club.

MYFC members would like every Ebbsfleet United fan or fan of football worldwide to visit the website and get involved.

The chance really is there for the project to still be something unique and for football fans the world over to get together and make their mark.

Membership for the year currently costs £35 and can be paid quarterly at myfootballclub.co.uk
