A QUARTET of Dartford school girls competed at Gillingham’s Medway Sports Complex in the regional schools biathlon.
More than 400 primary and secondary school pupils from all over the south east competed at the event, which involved running and swimming.
The competition enables youngsters to get a taste for modern pentathlon, where Great Britain have always fielded a strong team and brought home medals from the Olympics.
Leigh Academy trio Georgina Ladley, Danica Ebers and Erin Swain and Dartford Grammar’s Saffron Salih all qualified for next year’s national event in Aldershot.
The morning downpour let the girls’ running skills comethrough, while the afternoon in the pool allowed for their more proficient aquatic technique.
Individual highlights included Salih becoming Year 9 champion and Ladley the Year 10 third individual.
The team gained first place with Swain and Ebers to book their place in the national contest.
