MARK Goldberg says his Bromley side will go into this Saturday’s Hayes Lane FA Cup clash with League One Colchester full of belief they can cause an upset.
Tickets for the eagerly anticipated game are quickly selling out as cup fever mounts in the borough, but Bromley boss Goldberg is under no illusions about the size of the challenge ahead.
He explained: “I am excited but we still have a lot of preparation work to do yet.
“There are many aspects to consider if we are to get a positive result, including our preparation, discipline and shape.
“We have a game plan in mind obviously and it is a home tie too, so the supporters can play a crucial role on the day.
“I don’t know how big an upset would be from the outside, but we are going into the game believing we can get a result.
“Every part of our preparations is a vital ingredient if we are going to compete against a very good side in Colchester.
“We will train tonight and then try to get the players to relax from tomorrow ahead of the game.”
Bromley’s star striker Warren McBean, who grabbed two goals in the 3-0 demolition of Ebbsfleet, appeared to be a certainty to miss the big game when he limped off at Bath last week with a hamstring problem.
However, Goldberg revealed McBean’s injury may not be as bad as first feared and there is still a glimmer of hope the prolific forward may feature this weekend.
“By some miracle there is still a chance he could play,” the manager said.
“It is possible his hamstring may only have cramped up and I will find out at training tonight if Warren will make it.
“I still would rate him as doubtful and I’ve got to prepare our team as if he isn’t available.
“We will also be without Ryan Hall and Jerome Sobers as well.”
Colchester’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an end last week when they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Millwall.
But Goldberg is refusing to read anything into this and knows opposite number Aidy Boothroyd will be looking to bounce back straight away.
He said: “As a manager I tend to learn a lot more about my side from our losses than our wins.
“I’m sure Aidy will be looking to put it right but I’ve seen a recording of the game and the truth is they can consider themselves very unfortunate to have lost.”
Remaining tickets for the game can be pre-booked by calling Bromley FC on 020 8460 5291, but they must be collected before 9pm on Friday.
There will be no collections or sales on the day and supporters are reminded the game kicks-off at 1pm.
