IN what was undoubtedly Dartford’s toughest game to date, the result ended in the Darts’ favour simply because they had the edge over Sutton United in all departments of the game, including guts and the desire to win.

Against any other team at Gander Green Lane, the win would have ended up in the Sutton United ‘W’ column.

For around an hour Sutton were a match for the table-toppers, but the rub of the green which goes with that determined drive ended up in the Sutton net.

And all presided over by a referee who handled the game with all the subtlety of a Carry On film script.

It’s nice to see that Dartford have inherited the Dovertime influence – 10 minutes extra last night!

Undoubtedly the incident of the night involved Stefan Payne and Andrew Young.

Why anyone would take on Youngie – built like an All Black prop – is anybody’s guess, but Payne did.

There were two views of the incident, Sutton’s and Dartford’s, but the ref saw neither.

He also did not see the desperate treatment handed out to Elliot Bradbrook just before the break, one cynical and one clumsy. But enough of incompetence.

This match was keep them on their toes stuff and 1-0 to Sutton at half-time would not been out of place.

At Gander Green Lane, it was the RH2 show - Ryan Hayes providing and Rob Haworth finishing.

Goals came at, roughly, 10 minute intervals.

The first one on 56 minutes came from a Hayes cross to Elliot Bradbrook whose effort was too hot for Sutton keeper Kevin Scriven to hold.

The loose ball was turned past Scriven by Haworth and signalled a goal by the linesman But to make sure, Haworth fired past Scriven for a second time.

Ten minutes later, a Sutton defender headed a Hayes cross past his keeper to make it 2-0.

This was seen by the home contingent as the turning point. Haworth got down where it hurts with quarter of an hour remaining to heads home another Hayes right-side cross.
