WEST HAM came from behind to win their Carling Cup second-round tie against Millwall after extra time in near-riot conditions at Upton Park.

Junior Stanislas converted Julien Faubert’s cross three minutes from the end of 90 minutes, cancelling out Neil Harris’ 26th minute opener and triggering a mass pitch invasion.

Crowd trouble aside, the equaliser hurt Millwall, who had performed well against their Premiership opponents for 90 minutes and looked good money for an upset.

After order had been restored, Andy Frampton was adjudged to have handled substitute Hines’ cross in the box, leaving Stanislas to double his tally from the penalty spot.

And just four minutes later, an excellent through pass from Scott Parker set Hines free to race into the box and fire the clincher past David Forde.

Each West Ham goal – as well as the final whistle – prompted scores of over-zealous home fans to enter the field of play, much to the chagrin of players, staff and those supporters who had remained in their seats.

Lions boss Kenny Jackett said after the game: “It was a good performance.

“Unfortunately, West Ham clawed us back at the death and took away a terrific opportunity but we’re proud of the players.

“We played very well tonight and I’m disappointed for them but what we have to do now is move on quickly and take the good things out of the game, which were considerable.

“We have a home game against Brighton on Friday and mentally, the quicker we move on the better.”

However, Jackett feels his side were unfortunate with the penalty decision which gave the Hammers the lead.

He added: “Andy Frampton’s very disappointed with the penalty decision – he’s the captain and he played very well tonight.

“It hit his leg, bounced up and hit his elbow. It’s 50/50 sometimes. It might not be given against you at home and given away from home and the linesman’s given it instead of the referee.

“To win games like this as a League One club, you need critical decisions like this to go for you.”
