TWO trips to the coast in five days for Darts have yielded six points and a goal tally of seven to one.

For those who made a day of it, Darts’ win over Hastings United was the filling in a succulent sandwich.

Electing to - or being asked to - play away from the sea on a good-looking pitch within the natural bowl which is the Pilot Field and watched over by a high, blue sunny sky, Darts at once got into their rhythm.

They were playing just ahead of the Darts’ away supporters’ choir – who were vociferous throughout the afternoon.

Just short of the quarter-hour, Dartford took the lead when Lee Burns latched on to an intelligent through ball and drove beyond Nessling’s left shoulder to score in the angle between the bar and the far post.

Hastings were getting round the visitors a bit on the left but to no avail as the back row maintained its shape and snuffed out any danger.

The half looked like ending with Darts in control at a canter when a ‘handbags’ incident broke out following a Hasting appeal being turned down.

To add insult to the hosts’ perceived injury, Dartford doubled their lead just before the break.

Ryan Hayes, from whom Haworth and Burns had been feeding like babes from a mother’s breast, delivered an immaculate free kick which Rob Haworth headed firmly past Nessling.

The second half got under way with Dartford continuing to turn the screw relentlessly and the inevitable third goal duly arrived on 53 minutes with a routine Hayes cross was headed home by Burns.

Hastings were gifted a goal when Andrew Young was left stranded after making a huge clearance downfield and Matt Maclean aimed a curler inside the far post with spectators chanting ‘It’s going in, it’s going wide’.
