PREMIER League champions Manchester United have agreed to pay Charlton compensation after signing 15-year-old defender Sean McGinty.
The promising centre-half turned down scholarship terms with the Addicks to head to Old Trafford and the two clubs have agreed an undisclosed package, which includes additional fees depending on the player’s progress at United.
CHARLTON made a seven-figure profit when skipper Mark Hudson joined Cardiff City last Thursday.
The 27-year-old defender signed for the Addicks on a free transfer at the start of last season.
Cardiff have paid an initial £1.075m for Hudson and will shell out a further £250,000 in the event of promotion to the Premier League.
The deal also contains a sell-on clause.
Meanwhile, Darren Ambrose has signed for Crystal Palace and Josh Wright has joined Scunthorpe United following the duo’s release at the end of their contracts.
THE LAST surviving player who represented the Addicks in both the 1946 and 1947 FA Cup finals, Bert Johnson, died last week at the age of 92.
Johnson made 162 league and cup appearances for Charlton and his death means there are now only three surviving members of the club’s two FA Cup final teams.
His funeral took place near Leicester yesterday.
