A MOTHER and daughter from Orpington Ojays Swimming Club competed in the recent Great Britain masters and senior age group championships at the new Cardiff international 50m pool.
Alison Nye swam brilliantly to set a new British record in the 50m breaststroke (50 to 54 years) with a time of 37.78s, only narrowly missing out on a European Record by 0.03 of a second.
She was also placed second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50m freestyle.
Alison also gained gold medals in three team events and a British and European record in the ladies’ (240+) freestyle team.
The competition was daughter Katherine’s first major masters meet.
She swam strongly in the senior 18 to 24 years age group to win three bronze medals in the 50m and 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley.
Katherine also placed fourth in the 100m backstroke.
