Motor fans set for double treat at Brands

10:12am Thursday 2nd July 2009

TWO of the world’s most prestigious motor racing series roll into Brands Hatch in two weeks’ time when the famous venue hosts the FIA World Touring Car and Formula Two Championships on July 18 and July 19.

The World Touring Car Championship is one of three FIA-backed world series along with Formula One and the World Rally Championship.

WTCC’s fierce rivalries and wheel-to-wheel racing has attracted a growing fanbase since its creation in 2005.

Four British WTCC drivers will be flying the flag at Brands, including three times world champion Andy Priaulx in his Team UK BMW, WTCC race winner Rob Huff in a Chevrolet Cruze and SUNRED Engineering SEAT’s Tom Boardman.

British Touring Car ace James Thompson will return to the WTCC as well after signing a four-race deal with LADA.

Brands will also host the UK debut of the FIA Formula Two Championship.

This is a new Formula One feeder series which has attracted a capacity grid of 25 young talented drivers from 15 different countries, including international race winners and three sons of ex-F1 drivers.

The Formula Two cars have been designed by the AT&T Williams Formula One team, led by head of engineering Patrick Head, and the 2009 champion will receive a full test with the Williams F1 squad.

As well as two rounds of both headline championships, WTCC and F2 at Brands will also feature a full support race programme and off-track entertainment including a fun fair, mini JCBs and karting.

Tickets for the FIA World Touring Car and Formula Two Championships at Brands cost from £24 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under.
