Parky: No offers for Addicks players yet

PHIL Parkinson has told News Shopper there has been little interest from other clubs so far this summer in Charlton’s players.

The transfer window is set to open on July 1 and clubs have been busy jockeying for position to make sure they land their number one targets.

Jonjo Shelvey, Nicky Bailey, Therry Racon and Zheng Zhi are just some of the names who have all been linked with moves away from SE7 following relegation to League One, but the manager revealed nobody has made any firm bids for their services yet.

He said: “It has been relatively quiet in terms of players going.

“I’ve said all along I would like to keep as many of the squad from last season as I can keep and nothing has changed.”

Parkinson also confirmed Miguel Llera remains on his wanted list after the defender’s contract came to an end at MK Dons.

“He is certainly a player we are close to signing,” added the Addicks chief.

“Miguel is one of a number of players we’ve been speaking to but sometimes these things take a while to be formalised.

“He has had a good season with MK Dons and we aren’t the only club who have expressed an interest in him.”

Another player who fits the bill is winger Wade Small following his release by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season.

“I do feel we need another wide player and he is someone who could give us something, but he isn’t the only one we are considering in that role.

“There are a number of other positions we would like to strengthen as well.”

Charlton discovered yesterday they will begin their League One campaign on August 8 with a home game against Wycombe Wanderers.

Parkinson welcomed the news and also claimed the Addicks are in an ideal position to put themselves in the thick of the promotion race from day one.

He said: “I think it is a good start and the first six or seven games give us a great chance to get off to be right up there.

“I’m pleased we are at home in the first game and it should be a good match because Wycombe have just come up and will be out to impress.”
