WELLING visited Fisher Athletic keen on putting a couple of recent indifferent performances behind them and did so with a five goal performance.

Charlie Mitten, the Welling goalkeeper, was called into action in the first minute, making a near post save from Jack Lyons but the visitors soon took control and went ahead in the 10th minute.

Loui Fazackerley’s corner fell to Graeme Andrews via Tony Sinclair and the centre back made no mistake from close range.

Welling doubled their lead two minutes later when Ryan Johnson headed home a fine cross from Sanchez Ming.

Fazackerley opened up Fisher’s defence almost at will and Sam Hurrell shot just wide from one opportunity.

Mitten had to remain alert and made an outstanding save from what would have been a Johnson own goal.

Jack Parkinson was next to come close for Welling when his free-kick was pushed onto the post by Fisher’s goalkeeper Stuart Robinson.

Hurrell and Charlie Sheringham were twice involved in a move which saw the Welling striker foiled by Robinson.

The loose ball fell to Ming, whose pass to Fazackerley gave him a shooting opportunity which was blocked by the keeper.

Another Fazackerley run to the byline resulted in him cutting in and pulling a pass back to Hurrell, whose shot was well saved by Robinson.

A foul by Jamie Lovegrove on Fazackerley resulted in a penalty to Welling but Sheringham struck the spot kick wide.

Sheringham had an even better chance a few moments later but skied over from two feet out after being set up by Ming.

It could have been even worse for Sheringham just before half-time but fortunately for him his header floated just wide of his own goal.

Lee Protheroe’s first goal for Welling came two minutes into the second half when the ball came out to him on the right hand side and he crossed over Robinson and inside the far post.

Another cross from Fazackerley found Sheringham, but his shinned effort came back off the post.

However, even if he had scored, it would have been disallowed for offside.

Hurrell picked up possession just inside his own half on 57 minutes and set off on a solo run.

Dummy runs by substitute James Baker and Fazackerley allowed him to shoot unchallenged and he responded by scoring from 18-yards.

An injury to Mitten on 66 minutes resulted in him being replaced by substitute goalkeeper David Wilkinson, but Welling continued to make chances and Hurrell was thwarted by a fine Robinson save following another cross by Fazackerley.

Gary Wharton’s foul on Ming resulted in another Welling penalty and this time Sheringham converted emphatically.

Having netted, Sheringham was withdrawn immediately, enabling Welling manager Andy Ford to give Ayden Richards a 15 minute run out.

Wilkinson was almost embarrassed by Carlton Murray-Price but redeemed himself a minute later by making a fine save from the same player.

The Wings came close once more as time ran down but Fazackerley’s free-kick just eluded Baker at the far post.
