WELLING’S assistant manager Jimmy Dack has promised the Wings will not be sitting back in tonight’s crucial play-off clash with Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The Wings go into the game on a high after their 7-1 demolition of Folkestone Invicta in the Kent Senior Cup last week and with no fresh injury worries, Dack is urging his side to carry that high scoring form into tonight’s league match.

Dack is also hoping returning James Baker, recently signed from Chelmsford, can reignite his old striking partnership with Charlie Sheringham which proved highly successful earlier in the campaign.

He said: “We had one or two knocks after the game but we all trained yesterday and are now looking forward to the game tonight.

“We never go into a game defensively, we also look to score goals and win every match we play.

“When James left he told me he didn’t want to go, but he lives five minutes away from Chelmsford and they’re his local team.

“He is a great player. We can get the ball up to him and build from there.

“We have been missing a big player up front, which also creates a lot of chances for Charlie.”

The Hampton game starts a run of matches which, according to Dack, will make or break Welling’s season.

He explained: “The results have now become extremely important and our next seven or eight games will go some way in shaping our season. Matches have now become must-wins.”

The forthcoming fixtures see Welling face a number of teams placed in the play-off positions.

A run of good results could see the Wings cement their place among them and keep their promotion aspirations alive, an aim that Dack is keen to achieve.

He added: “We’ve got to take some points off the top teams.

“We want to be playing in the Conference next year and if we can get into the play-offs, then we have a great chance of making it.”
