JIMMY Dack says the decision to extend Moses Ademola’s loan stay at Welling United from Brentford was a “no brainer”.

The talented striker has made an impressive contribution to the Wings’ promotion push since joining the Park View Road club in early December and the assistant manager was only too happy to have him on board for another month.

Dack said: “He has done really well and is getting fit by playing with us.

“It was a no brainer really to have him stay because you cannot have enough good forwards in your squad.

“We are always on the lookout for new players and there is a possibility one more may come in soon.

“However, he will have to be somebody who we feel will add some genuine quality to what we have already got at the moment.

“There is no point in getting a player who isn’t any better to the ones we already have, so we will keep our options open.”

Welling certainly had a Christmas to remember, notching up consecutive 3-1 derby wins over neighbours Bromley on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to leave the Wings sitting fifth in the table.

The opportunity to build on their impressive run was denied on Saturday, however, when the clash at Basingstoke was called off because of a frozen pitch.

Dack said: “There is a degree of frustration for sure because we are on a really good run and you never want to lose momentum when you are on a winning streak.

“The coach was at Princes to pick the players up when they found out the news. Fortunately for me, I had yet to even leave my house.”

Last night’s London Senior Cup tie at Croydon Athletic also fell foul to the cold snap, giving the club’s management team another unwanted headache.

Dack explained: “It is disappointing because we wanted to use the game to give a run out to some of the players who don’t get much first team action.

“The team is not just about the 11 players who regularly start every game, it is about the whole squad because you need to have at least 18 fit players available if you are to sustain a promotion push.”

Welling take a breather from the promotion chase this weekend when they visit Hednesford in the second round of the FA Trophy, but Dack denied the competition was a distraction from the club’s real goal.

He said: “I would like us to do well in both the league and the Trophy. It offers the only realistic chance of playing at Wembley for anyone involved at this level and I’ve had some close experiences over the years.

“I played in one semi-final and been in the dugout for two. We missed out in all of them and I know how disappointing that can be.”

Hednesford are currently top of the Unibond Premier Division and Dack is anticipating a tricky test for the Wings on Saurday.

He added: “They are flying at the moment in a tough division. I’ve played there before and it is a difficult place to go to and get a result.”

Delando Smith is cup-tied for the trip north, while Sonny Cobbs is ruled out through suspension.
