Ebbsfleet United 0-2 Torquay United

THERE was to be no repeat of Ebbsfleet’s FA Trophy win over Torquay at the Gulls claimed a 2-0 victory.

Keeper Lance Cronin’s feet prevented Wayne Carlisle’s 12th minute shot from finding the back of the net.

Michael Gash headed straight at Scott Bevan one minute later at the other end.

Roscoe D’Sane played a clever one-two with Tyrone Thompson on 18 minutes which Cronin did well to push out, but the rebound found Tim Sills and his shot was cleared by a Fleet defender.

Ricky Shakes blasted over the bar from a promising position on 33 minutes and Stacy Long scuffed a shot shortly afterwards on a frustrating afternoon for the home attackers.

Torquay took a deserved lead three minutes from half-time when a mistake from Sacha Opinel just inside his own half gifted possession to Carlisle.

He quickly put Nicky Wroe clean through on goal and although his initial shot came back off the post Thompson was on hand to immediately cross it back and Wroe made no mistake second time around.

The visitors doubled their advantage 10 minutes after the break.

Sills found Thompson who in turn played in Carlisle and he cleverly fired beyond Cronin from 10 yards.

Jamie Hand appealed for a penalty minutes later, claiming his shot had been handled inside the area by Lee Mansell, but his shouts were ignored by the referee.

Luke Moore almost gave Ebbsfleet hope six minutes from time when he shot straight at Bevan, but it wasn’t to be and Torquay claimed the three points.
