Seeley lands bronze

THREE members from Alan Champion's coaching group at Dartford Harriers AC were selected to join the 60-strong Kent team at the 78th English schools' track and field championships in Gateshead last weekend.

Eighteen-year-old Gravesend Grammar School pupil Rosalind Seeley made it fourth time lucky in the national competition, winning the discus bronze medal.

She fulfilled her dream with a throw of 40.41m, having in previous years placed 10th, fifth and fourth.

Making her debut at the event was Samantha Brown, who exceeded expectations by taking bronze in the junior girls' 75m hurdles in 11.46s.

Brown replicated the time of her earlier heat, which was also good enough earn second.

Natalie Hickmott fought her way through the heats and semis to book a place in the junior girls' 200m final.

Her time of 25.64s in the semi was a personal best, but she was unable to match the achievement in the final where her time of 26.3s earned a sixth-place finish.
