Gravesend duo impress


TWO members of Gravesend Cycling Club travelled to Herne Bay last Thursday evening to compete in the VC Elan 10-mile time trial on the Thanet Way.

Mark Williams was rewarded with a personal best time of 23m21s and Paul Hyde recorded a season best time of 24m18s.

Reg Smith, riding for Kent DCB, recorded an excellent time of 21m19s to claim first place.

Smith was also the fastest rider in the latest event in the Gravesend evening 10 series.

He timed 22m57s, even with the handicap of forgetting his cycling shoes.

Other times were: G. Terry 24m10s; Lee Willard (VC Elan) 24m41s; K. Hildenbrand (VC Elan) 24m45s; S. Brake 26m01s; Paul Mepham (VC Elan) 26m24s; Jason Tibbs (GCC) 26m27s (a new personal best); Keith Ward (GCC) 26m52s and Keith Perry (Catford) 27m53s.

Results for the previous two weeks of the evening 10 series were as follows: June 17 - Dave Stocker (SFA) 24m19s; Kevin Gleadow (Kent Cycles) 24m44s; Lee Willard (VC Elan) 25m16s; Paul Hyde (GCC) 25m56s; Graham Strugnell (Wigmore) 26m12s and Keith Perry (Catford) 27.43.

June 10: Reg Smith (DCB) 22m09s; Kevin Gleadow (Kent Cycles) 24m15s; Mick Walker (VC Elan) 24m42s; Lee Willard (VC Elan) 24m56s; Graeme Moir (GCC) 25m09s; Keith Ward (GCC) 25m49s; Jason Tibbs (GCC) 27m06s and Keith Perry (Catford) 27m32s.
