BRITISH and Commonwealth boxer Julius Francis was guest of honour at last night's Ravens Wood School sports dinner.

The annual event celebrates the sporting achievements of the pupils at the school in Oakley Road, Bromley.

Francis, who is best known for his 1999 fight with Mike Tyson, was on hand to make the presentations.

He said: "It is clear Ravens Wood is a tremendous school for sport and I feel humbled by the achievements of some of the students."

These include a national schools title in football, 10 international standard athletes in nine events, a semi-final appearance in a national basketball competition and a last 32 finish in a UK rugby event.

Head of physical education Rhys Spiers said: "This has been another outstanding year for sport at Ravens Wood.

"Not only have we reached some of the highest standards of secondary school sport in England, but we have also been able to engage over 700 of our students in a fantastically diverse and inclusive programme."

And exciting times are ahead for rugby players at Ravens Wood with the formation of a new sixth form academy linked to Guinness Premiership side Saracens RFC.
