RAVENS Wood School sent two teams of drivers to the recent final of the British Schools' karting championship and one came home with a silver medal.

The event was open to any school or college in Britain with a team of three students between the ages of 13 and 18.

Buckmore Park in Kent was the venue for the final, which came as the culmination of two months of hard racing by school teams across the length and breadth of Britain.

A total of 228 teams from 82 schools took part in the championship, which saw qualifiers take place in nine different regions across England, Scotland and Wales.

Ravens Wood's A team battled ruthlessly to secure a second place podium finish.

They were two points ahead of Peebles High School A from Scotland in what was a closely fought battle between the top three teams throughout the afternoon and into the last race.

Ravens Wood's B team also produced outstanding results and finished a worthy joint eighth, meaning the Bromley school was the only one in the country to have both their teams in the top 10.

Team captain Mrs Salmon said: "It was only our first year in the event, but the Ravens Wood teams were outstanding.

"They also by worked as one team and supported each other no matter what the outcome.

"I was extremely proud of their achievements and look forward to taking them to the 2009 championships."
