OLD Ethamians Cricket Club has been awarded the prestigious Focus Club status by the England & Wales County Cricket Board (ECB).

The honour was bestowed in recognition of the commitment the club has demonstrated during the past three years to the development of junior talent through its work at both the club's Foxbury Ground and the wider community.

This award entitles Old Elthamians to apply for development grants to extend its coaching programmes to more schools.

It also links Old Elthamians to a network of more than 1,000 ECB accredited clubs throughout the UK working towards the future of domestic cricket.

Robin Driscoll, junior section chairman at Old Elthamians, said: "We are thrilled our efforts to encourage participation at all levels and age groups in junior cricket has been recognised by the ECB.

"We are looking forward to another record year of junior membership and achievement at both our winter and summer coaching programmes."

Old Elthamians have eight junior and five senior sides offering opportunities for all abilities and levels of experience, each playing an average of 14 games per season at venues throughout the north Kent area and beyond.

There is also an overseas professional secured to compliment the team of qualified coaches who co-ordinate club training sessions.
