Charlton’s former chief executive, Katrien Meire, has been charged by the English Football League for misconduct while holding the same position at Sheffield Wednesday.
The charges relate to the controversial £60million sale of Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium to club owner Dejphon Chansiri which ensured the club avoided breaking financial fair play rules.
Investigations have revealed that according to Land Registry documents the purchase was in fact made a year later than the £38million profit in the 2017-18 as declared.
If found guilty, Chansiri, Meire and finance director John Redgate could all face a footballing ban.
Chansiri and Wednesday ‘vigorously’ deny the claims and will fight the charges.
Meire, a Belgian Lawyer, held the position of Chief Executive at Charlton between 2014-17, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday, a positon she stepped down from in February this year.
Chansiri bought Wednesday in 2015.
Coincidentally Wednesday defeated Chrlton 3-1 at The Valley last Saturday and are within two points of the top six.
