Phillips modest despite heroics in Charlton's Fulham draw

Dillon Phillips picked up the gong after a string of saves in the second half which earned The Valley outfit a point to take back to SE7.

Goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and Aleksander Mitrovic pegged Conor Gallagher and Macauley Bonne’s strikes back, but it was Phillips’s heroics, notably a sublime stop from Bobby Decordova-Reid, that caught the eye.

Racing from his front post to the back, Phillips managed to block Decordova-Reid’s volleyed effort from two-yards out to keep the scores level late on.

“I think the two saves at the end got me Man of The Match, I don’t think I was Man of The Whole Match!” a modest Phillips said.

“I knew I couldn’t come for the cross. so I had to work my feet quickly and get across to the other side.

“The fella gave me half a chance and lucky I was in the right place at the right time.”

One great stop Phillips produced proved to be in vain was to deny Tom Cairney’s header from close range.

The save controversially fell to Mitrovic who slotted home to level at 2-2, as replays showed he was in an off-side position when Cairney headed goalwards.

“I’ve heard it might have been offside, but you get some and you don’t get some.

“That’s football.

“There’s no VAR in This league so it is what it is, we move on.

“I made a save, it just fell to Mitrovic, on the other day it falls to one of us and we clear our lines, but it is what it is.”

Team Spirit

Phillips performance may have won him the top prize but the academy product was full of praise for his outfield men.

“The boys did really well and dug in deep in the end when we needed them.

“First half we made things difficult for them and I don’t think they’ll come up against anything like the first 45minutes the rest of the whole season really, credit to the boys.

“The team spirit, you don’t lose that (from last season).

“We kept a few from last year and the boys we brought in have bought in into that and have done great.”
