Here are five thing we learned from Charlton’s 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Jason Pearce - The General

News Shopper:

Dillon Phillips may have picked up the Man Of The Match award at Fulham but the skipper can’t have been far behind him. Stepping up to the hugely talented Aleksander Mitrovic, as well as martialling his back three, the former Leeds and Portsmouth man was a man mountain. There’s a lot of ifs and buts in football, but if Pearce were able to play Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday, like the Championship regularly demands, the whole side would be better for it. Everyone follows him into battle.

Jake Forster-Caskey - what left back problem?

Heads would’ve been scratched by many fans midweek as to how they’d cope with the loss of Ben Purrington for the trip to Fulham. Would Chris Solly play on the left? Sarr? Stevenson even?! When JFC stepped in the jury was out, but the man who’s been bighted by injury for much of the last season was more than capable. Impressive even. Playing left-back he kept the usually lively Anthony Knockaert quiet, even to the extent he switched wings with the equally tricky Ivan Cavaleiro. He also has a wand of a left foot, which he showcased by picking out Solly at the back stick for the opener. Will he get a game in his favoured midfield position? If not, he’s ready for the left wing-back berth.

Chris Solly - no longer an unsung hero

News Shopper:

The right-back gets some stick from some sections of the Addicks faithful for not being ‘quick enough,’ ‘attacking enough,’ or simply ‘good enough.’

But at Fulham you saw what you get from the Academy graduate, and it’s exactly what Charlton need.

Very rarely will he win the MOTM award but he’ll never let you down.

Seeing how Tom Lockyer was under the cosh from Cavaleiro in the first half he tucked in to great effect to help his centre back out.

Going forward too, who would’ve expected to see him at the end of JFC cross and picking out Conor Gallagher for the opener?!

Then there’s his competitiveness, it’s contagious, he’ll do anything to win.

Travelling Support

News Shopper:

Each week they get praised, but it’s justified.

Craven Cottage isn’t a ground you would usually associate with a great atmosphere, especially this season as they’re playing with their main stand out of action.

The Addicks travelling support however made enough noise to compensate for the missing quarter of the ground. What a noisy bunch…excellent.

Fulham under Parker

There’s something missing there. They have a great squad, plenty of huge names, but are they capable of the rigours or the fight of a Championship promotion? I’m not sure.

In possession they look dangerous, but you feel there’s not enough bite or ball winner amongst them to challenge gritty sides, especially away from home.
