Charlton are far from done in the transfer market according to Lee Bowyer.

Four new faces have arrived at The Valley for the Addicks’ return to the Championship, but Bowyer expects to land another handful of players before the season opener at Blackburn on August 3.

Chuks Aneke, Tom Lockyer, Macauley Bonne and Ben Purrington have all penned permanent deals with the club, but having seen a number of key players from their successful 2018/19 season leave, Bowyer is in need of reinforcements.

“We need to bring players in, we know that, probably a number of roughly six or seven players," Bowyer told CAFC. .

“Two or three permanent, and probably four loans.

“We have our eye on some.

“What we are trying to do is try and get two players for every position.

“We’ll be ready for the first game of the season for sure,”

Priceless-Pratley

News Shopper:

Charlton strategy in the market so far has been to sign hungry and as a result, young players.

With hostile environments expected in the Championship however, Bowyer also underlined the importance of bringing experience into his squad to cope with the tough ‘away days.’

“We’ve maybe got to get one or two players in who are more experienced.

“Darren Pratley was priceless for us at the back end of last season.

“You need those ‘men’ in your dressing room.

“We will need those ‘men’ when we do go to Millwall for instance, when the crowd are going to be ‘vocal,’ if you want a nice way of putting it.

“We have to have ‘men’ for those days.

“We should be playing against the Leeds', the West Broms', we should be playing at big grounds, full houses.

“It’s about whether they can they handle the pressure of playing in front of 30 thousand when the crowd is on them?

“It’s going to be quite daunting for them, we’ve got a lot of young players here, it’s how they handle it.

“Most of them haven’t been in that situation."

No Rush

Despite the season starting in less than a month, Bowyer admitting he’s in no rush to finalise any deals, citing last year’s late loan arrivals and the success that came them.

“The better players don’t go out straight away, the bigger clubs try and get the best and biggest club for their player.

“Josh Cullen and Krystian Bielik we got late on, and they definitely made us better, so we have to be patient again.

“But I’ve no doubt we’ll make the right choice which is best for our club.”
