The nature of business proceedings surrounding Roland Duchatelet's Charlton takeover talks took another bizarre twist today.

Following the reported withdrawal of Mehmet Dalman in acquiring The Valley outfit, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan made an unusual admission during Jim White’s Talksport show.

Cardiff Chairman Dalman was thought to be at an advanced stage in take over discussions with Duchatelet but complexities involved in the deal, thought to include upping the asking price, from £33million to £50million, resulted in Dalman’s decision to withdraw.

Duchatelet has been openly admitting he wishes to sell the club but Jordan’s comments suggesting the Belgian owner has upped the asking price significantly since Lee Bowyer guided the Addicks to the Championship has cast doubt over how willing the owner is in selling the club.

"I know this deal," Jordan said.

"I know what's going on with this deal.

"I can be part of this deal if I want to.

"And I'll be surprised, if (Duchatelet is) asking for £50 million - I'll be amazed - if he gets anywhere near it.

"I know the shape of this deal and if I want to come to the table and own a particular part of Charlton, I can.

"I don't want to. It's not for me. I'm a Crystal Palace fan.

"There is not a parallel where I could want to be involved with Charlton."

Jordan’s comments suggest Dalman echoed his worries over any takeover in the latest instalment of the five-year Charlton-Duchatelet saga.

The former Palace Chairman was at the helm at Selhurst for a decade before selling-up nine years ago.
