Charlton suffered a 1-0 defeat to Peterborough thanks to Jason Cummings’ 89th-minute penalty.

Posh dominated large spells of the game and their late goal leaves the Addicks with just one win from their opening four league games.

Lee Bowyer made one change to the side that drew against Accrington Stanley with Albie Morgan making his first league start for the Addicks at George Lapslie’s expense.

Peterborough threatened through Siriki Dembele’s set-pieces as Charlton struggled to create chances in the first-half.

Chris Solly’s skewed clearance fell to Mark O’Hara who sliced wide from close-range on nine minutes.

And the visitors came close again when Rhys Bennett headed Dembele’s corner on to the crossbar before Solly cleared the dropping ball off the line.

Darren Pratley and Morgan were booked in a fiery first-half with caretaker boss Bowyer even seeing yellow after contesting a foul given against Krystian Bielik.

Charlton’s first meaningful attack came just before the break when Lyle Taylor fired wide from eight yards.

And after the half-time whistle went, Peterborough boss Steve Evans received a yellow card for berating officials in the tunnel.

Posh started the second-half on the front foot and nearly went in front when Dembele’s cross was deflected just wide by Patrick Bauer and Naby Sarr.

Dembele was involved in almost every Peterborough attack. He forced a good save from Dillon Phillips after being played through on goal by Ivan Toney in the 63rd minute.

Evans’ men were cranking up the pressure and spurned another opportunity as Colin Daniel shot wide from the edge of the box.

Despite Peterborough’s dominant start to the half, Charlton grew into the game in the latter stages. Lyle Taylor’s volley was excellently blocked by a combination of Jason Naismith and goalkeeper Aaron Chapman.

Charlton continued to attack as Joe Aribo’s teasing cross was agonisingly cut out by Bennett with Taylor breathing down his neck.

And when the game looked to be petering out for a draw, Lewis Page was penalised for bundling over Toney in the box.

Cummings stepped up and converted the spot-kick to pile the misery on Charlton, who are still desperately waiting for the club to be taken over from Roland Duchatelet.
