Neil Harris does not know his strongest side with the new season just two weeks away.

Shane Ferguson and Ben Thompson were given the chance to impress in Millwall’s 2-0 win over Cambridge on Saturday. The duo were sparingly used last term.

Harris said: “There will be a few players today that will want to be pushing me and force their way into the side. Today some players were very good and some didn’t give their best performance.

“There are places up for grabs that’s for sure, 100 per cent.

“There are players who might think they’re going to play but maybe not in my opinion.

“Two weeks is a long time in football, if you have a team in mind and then you pick up a couple of injuries or there are a couple of poor performances then it all changes.

“I won’t have a clear picture in my mind until at least the Tuesday before we play Middlesbrough.”

Millwall failed to get going against Cambridge, who created better chances, until Tom Elliot headed in the opener.

Harris added: “There were some elements of the game that were outstanding and some elements of the game that we were a bit rusty on and need improving.

“Fair play to Cambridge, for 70 minutes they played very well, they should be proud of themselves.

“I was impressed with the way they set up and the way they played. They made it very difficult for us.

“The game went perfect for us. I’m delighted with the couple of goals and a clean sheet is always a bonus in pre-season even when you are not at your best.”
