Charlton recorded their first pre-season win after beating Welling 2-1 at Park View Road.
Goals from Nicky Ajose and Lyle Taylor cancelled out Adam Coombes’ opener.
Charlton played a different starting XI in both halves - here is how News Shopper rated Lee Bowyer’s men…
First-half team:
Ashley Maynard-Brewer - 6 - Claimed his crosses well. Could’ve made himself bigger for Welling’s goal.
Mark Marshall - 8 - He played as a wing-back against Oxford in the Checkatrade Trophy last season and didn't look out of place. He coped comfortably at right-back today.
Patrick Bauer - 8 - An impressive pre-season display from the BFG. Charlton must do everything to keep him at the club.
Naby Sarr - 3 - Way too many errors. At fault for the first goal after his wayward pass. He was caught out of position at least three times.
Lewis Page - 6 - Solid and good going forward. Needs an injury-free season.
Simon Dawkins - 5 - On trial with Charlton after training with the club at the back end of last season. Did not really have a chance to run at his full-back.
Joe Aribo - 9 - Ran the show from midfield with his smart passing. Played a huge role in Charlton’s first goal by playing in Ajose.
Taylor Maloney - 7 - It’s his first pre-season with the senior group and he looks like a tidy midfielder.
Karlan Grant - 7 - He was lively throughout the first-half. Don’t be surprised if he’s starting against Sunderland next month.
Josh Magennis - 5 - His hold-up play wasn't up to his usual standards.
Nicky Ajose - 6 - Scored his goal at the second time of asking. His clever off-the-ball runs were never found by his team-mates.
Second-half team:
Dillon Phillips - 6 - Did not have a save to make.
Chris Solly - 6 - Got forward when he could. Dealt well with Welling’s best player Nassim L’Ghoul.
Elliott Ward - 6 - Barely had any defending to do and was comfortable on the ball.
Jason Pearce - 6 - Dealt with every high ball that came his way.
Ryan Blumberg - 6 - A centre-half playing at left-back - and didn't put a foot wrong.
Albie Morgan - 8 - Charlton’s most impressive academy graduate today. Had lovely touches and whipped dangerous crosses.
Jake Forster-Caskey - 7 - He was Charlton’s deep-lying midfield playmaker. His free-kick hit the crossbar and fell perfectly to Taylor, who had a simple tap-in.
George Lapslie - 6 - Kept the midfield ticking and rarely lost the ball.
Tariqe Fosu - 8 - Always had the better of his marker with his smart turns. Could’ve released the ball a few more times, though, instead of shooting from range.
Lyle Taylor - 8 - Hit the post when he should've scored with all the space in the world. Got his goal in the end - two in two pre-season games.
Igor Vetokele - 5 - Bullied off the ball by Welling’s big centre-halves. Hopefully that’s not a sign of things to come in League One… if he stays.
