Roland Duchatelet continues to operate monthly losses as the Charlton takeover rumbles on.

The unpopular Addicks owner is believed to fork out close to £1m-a-month on player wages, maintaing the club’s training ground, the Valley and more.

It is one of the reasons Duchatelet has been trying to sell Charlton for the past year - and why he is becoming frustrated with the delay in ending his four-and-a-half-year reign in SE7.

It was suggested that Australian businessman Andrew Muir was hopeful of completing his long-awaited takeover of Charlton by the end of this week.

But the sale of star defender Ezri Konsa to Brentord, which News Shopper revealed was sanctioned by Duchatelet, has possibly caused more delays.

Duchatelet, who sold Addicks academy graduate Konsa for a fee in the region of £2.5m on Tuesday, was happy to offload him to reduce the monthly costs of running Charlton.

It is hoped that if he is able to bring that monthly figure down, then the club will be in a better position to be sold.

It remains to be seen how long it could take Duchatelet to reduce costs, which makes it difficult to predict a takeover date.

Charlton are still paying for financial mistakes that were made in the Championship - Igor Vetokele was signed for a seven-figure fee in 2014.

The striker has not played a competitive game for the Addicks since May 2016 after spending the last two seasons on loan at Belgian clubs Waregem and Sint Truiden.

He is one of Charlton’s top earners and still has one year left on his current deal - and it is unclear whether the club would want to pay his full wages in League One next season.

Yesterday, Charlton confirmed Lee Bowyer will remain as caretaker manager until told otherwise and said Duchatelet is starting to make provisional decisions for the upcoming season.

The Addicks are still without a chief executive, chairman, finance officer and permanent manager.
