Neil Harris is hoping to sign three players this summer.

The Millwall manager wants to fine-tune a squad that finished eighth in the Championship last season.

Ben Marshall, who starred in a loan spell at the Den, is thought to be wanted back on a permanent deal from Wolves.

“There won’t be a major overhaul this summer. Anyone who followed us last year knows we've got a really settled squad and a good group of players,” Harris told News Shopper.

“The four players we signed in January have all gone so it’s a case of two players coming in, three maximum, and then being reactive to who goes out the building.

“What I do know is that I want to work with a group of no more than 22 - and that might include a young lad from the Under-23s.”

First-teamers Tim Cahill, Jimmy Abdou and Harry Toffolo left SE16 last month, while Jason Shackell and Marshall returned to their parent clubs.

It has left a void in Millwall’s squad with Harris keen to find replacements.

However, the Lions might have to be patient with their summer business due to the World Cup, which starts next Thursday.

“As a top eight Championship club, it doesn't mean we’re attracting top eight Championship players on paper because they're just too expensive,” Harris added.

“But I think with the league and agents being so multicultural that a lot of players are now away at the World Cup. The hardest part with that is speaking to clubs about their players and looking to bring some in.

“There will be clubs not wanting players to [move] now because they're not getting their players back from the World Cup until mid-July or late July.

“They need to have those players on tour, in pre-season friendlies. They're saying ‘we could be interested [in selling] but it won’t be until mid-July’.

“This is something we knew would happen because clubs have responsibilities to fill teams. So I’d be lying if it’s a little bit slower than we anticipated.

“But because we finished our season early this year, there’s that sleeping period where there is a lot of work behind the scenes but nothing happening in writing.

“If I was ever thinking ‘right we need to get moving’ - I’d just need to look at the websites. There’s nothing happening in the Championship just because of the World Cup fever and timing of the year and players under contract until the end of June.”
