Millwall target Mark Oxley has signed a new three-year deal with Southend.

The Lions were believed to be one of the clubs interested in Oxley, who was offered “the best contract for a goalkeeper in League One,” according to Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin.

And he has now committed his future to the League One side.

Oxley, whose contract was set to expire this summer, said: “I’ve been in talks for a while now and I’m just delighted to get it all done.

“It’s never nice being out of contract as a player but when you’ve got a bit of interest and the club wants to sign you it’s a good position to be in, and luckily the chairman has looked after me here.

“I’ve got three years to look forward to, to kick on from last year and hopefully push on as a club.

“I get on well with the gaffer and ever since he’s come in he’s been a breath of fresh air.

"What he’s brought in will give us a great chance this year and going forward this is a club that wants to succeed.”
