West Ham are set to sign Crystal Palace transfer target Ryan Fredericks.

The Fulham defender, who is out of contract next month, has been watched by the Eagles over the course of the season.

Despite Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League, Fredericks is understood to be close to joining the Hammers after positive talks.

It is a huge twist after Fredericks, 25, recently hinted he could sign a new deal with Fulham.

He said: “It’s up to the people behind the scenes but I’m sure everyone will want to stay and play at the highest level with Fulham and see what we can achieve.

“Can this club allow me to fulfil my ambitions? Of course. You look at the players we’re attracting, like Aleksandar Mitrovic, we’ve already got Premier League players in the Championship.”

Fredericks is likely to be West Ham's first-choice right-back ahead of an ageing Pablo Zabaleta and Sam Byram, who has failed to impress in the top flight.

Crystal Palace could face their own crisis at right-back with Joel Ward, who is out of contract soon, their only option.
