Jason Pearce would like to see Lee Bowyer appointed as Charlton manager.

Bowyer took temporary charge of the Addicks in March and guided them into the top six.

They fell short to third-placed Shrewsbury in the play-off semi-finals which confirmed a third season in League One.

Bowyer, who won six of his 10 league games as caretaker boss, wants the job on a permanent basis.

“Yeah, I think he’s been fantastic with the boys,” Pearce told News Shopper when asked if he’d like Bowyer at the helm next season.

“You've seen the team spirit and togetherness. Everyone has given 100 per cent.

“We’ve given it a real good go. In the play-off semi-finals, everyone gave their all but we just weren't good enough.

“It would be great if he got the job but football is a funny old game.

“With new owners, anything can happen. We’ve just got to focus on what happens in the future.”
