Lee Bowyer will rest some of his Charlton stars for the trip to Rochdale on Saturday.

The Addicks have all but secured a play-off spot thanks to their superior goal difference over seventh-placed Plymouth.

And Charlton take on relegation-threatened Rochdale on the final day of the season with one eye on the play-off semi-finals. A sixth-placed finish will see them face Shrewsbury next Thursday.

Bowyer, whose Charlton side have won their last three games, said: “We want to keep this winning feeling going.

“But at the same time, I’d be stupid not to have half an eye on Thursday’s game, so there will be changes, I’m not going to deny that.

“I don't want to make too many and change things around too much. But there are certain people I want to see play. Some people need minutes as well because you don't know what can happen.

“We keep picking up an injury every game now and losing someone for two or three weeks. So I’ve got to look at other people and see whether they can do a job that I might require at a later stage.

“I decided [that I was going to make changes] when I watched Rochdale yesterday. I’ve made my mind up about who I’m going to start. So it’s not a dilemma, whoever comes in, they know what’s expected of them and they’ll give 100 per cent. I know that.

“It’s a massive deficit [Plymouth's goal difference]. If that happens then something’s gone seriously wrong. That’s without us scoring as well.

“I have to prepare for that as well because the Saturday-Thursday turnaround isn't ideal. I’d prefer the other leg. But it is what it is. I have to try to keep some players fresh because it’s a massive opportunity for us.”
