Lee Bowyer does not want his Charlton players sulking over squad selection.

Mark Marshall and Sullay Kaikai have been axed from the last two squads against Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury, respectively.

But Marshall responded to the snub by impressing Bowyer with his work-rate and desire in Charlton’s 2-0 win at New Meadow on Tuesday.

When asked if he’d want a similar reaction from Kaikai, who could be involved for the trip to Portsmouth today, Bowyer told News Shopper: “I’d hope for that reaction from any player, that’s what I expect.

“I don’t want anyone sulking or else they won’t be involved at all. So we’re a team and we’re all one.

“Like Marshall, you could be left out, but then you might play the next game. Whatever I think is right for the team, that will happen. They know that it’s not personal, I respect them all.

“I’ve not seen any of my players sulking. If anyone could, it could have been Marshall. I didn't see him sulking, I saw him putting his body on the line and working his socks off for the team.

“That wasn't a person that was sulking, it was a person that was hurt from not being picked. He took that hurt in a positive way and gave it back to the team, which is what you'd expect.”
