Lee Bowyer insists his players won’t be intimidated by the Portsmouth atmosphere.

Charlton travel to Pompey in a crucial play-off six-pointer tomorrow.

Addicks caretaker boss Bowyer, who played at Fratton Park as a player, told News Shopper: “You can turn the atmosphere, like at any stadium.

“When I was at Newcastle, we had 50,000 fans at our place, but teams could come and turn the atmosphere around.

“So you can use that to your advantage. Plus, playing in front of a crowd like Portsmouth, whose supporters are outstanding, it should get you going more.

“Even though they're not cheering for you, to play in that atmosphere, I think it’s good for the lads. They should take it and use it to their advantage.”

MORE: Charlton have five injury concerns ahead of Portsmouth clash

Charlton are fifth in League One with three games to go.

They are two points ahead of Portsmouth, who need to beat the Addicks to maintain their top-six push.

Bowyer said: “My players won’t be intimidated by the atmosphere because supporters are supporters. They've been playing long enough.

“They’re experienced enough, even the young lads. Ez [Ezri Konsa] has played 50, 60 games, he’s been in the game long enough to embrace that.

“All the players are strong enough characters to take that on board. But like I said, I will tell them today, you can use the atmosphere to your advantage.

“There’s nothing better than playing away and getting three points.”
