Charlton legend Johnnie Jackson is just two games away from making his 500th career appearance.

And caretaker boss Lee Bowyer does not know whether the club captain will reach that landmark.

Addicks assistant manager Jackson, who told News Shopper this is his last playing season, has not featured since March 10 due to an achilles problem.

Bowyer, whose Charlton side are fifth with three games to go, said: “Obviously everybody would like Johnnie to get to 500 career appearances because that’s some achievement.

“But I think you have to be careful about what you do because the most important thing is that we get the results.

“Johnnie will sit here and say the same, he would rather see the lads get the results than get to 500. But you never know, there might be a couple of times when you can chuck him on to get to 500.

“At the moment, we’re not even thinking of anything like that. Johnnie is still injured so he’s not going to get to 500 when he’s still injured.”

Jackson, 35, has made 278 Charlton appearances during his eight-and-a-half-year spell in SE7.
