Lee Bowyer’s unbeaten start as Charlton caretaker boss continued with a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers.

Ben Reeves’ second successive away goal cancelled out Kyle Bennett’s opener.

The Addicks remain sixth after their play-off rivals Portsmouth and Scunthorpe failed to win.

Bowyer made three changes to the side that beat Rotherham with Anfernee Dijksteel, Lewis Page and Sullay Kaikai coming in for Ezri Konsa, Jay Dasilva and the injured Tariqe Fosu.

Kaikai had the game’s first chance four minutes in after his clever nutmeg allowed him to test Gas goalkeeper Sam Slocombe from a tight angle. The Palace loanee should have squared the ball to Nicky Ajose, who would have had a tap-in.

Ajose tried his luck from distance before Ben Amos’ strong hand denied Ellis Harrison at his near post.

Rovers took the lead in the 21st-minute through a Jason Pearce error. The defender’s header was undercooked and Bennett got to the ball before Amos to slot home.

Charlton took 15 minutes to respond with a genuine opening when Ajose’s curling effort was tipped over the bar. The resulting corner saw an unmarked Joe Aribo head wide.

The Addicks’ fluidity that’s been on show in the last three games was missing in the first-half, but they drew level just seconds before the break. Reeves let fly from 18 yards following a one-two with Kaikai and his deflected strike found its way past Slocombe.

Charlton started the second-half brightly as Reeves, who has looked look a new player under Bowyer, had a 20-yard shot superbly saved by Slocombe.

The visitors threatened again when Reeves’ chipped ball found Michal Zyro, who lifted it over the bar from close-range.

Rovers had an appeal for a penalty turned down on the hour mark after the ball struck Patrick Bauer’s hand - Gas boss Darrell Clarke was incensed on the touchline.

While fending off pressure from the hosts, Charlton always looked dangerous in attack. Zyro was just inches away from connecting with an inviting Page cross.

The Addicks were denied a late winner after Aribo’s volley was cleared off the line.

Bowyer has now taken 10 points from a possible 12 in his first four games.
