A late Ben Thompson equaliser saved Millwall from a stun FA Cup exit to relegation-battling Rochdale at the Den.

Fred Onyedinma won a penalty with a darting run into the box, later converted by Jed Wallace 17 mins in, before Dale captain Ian Henderson curled an effort around David Martin on 32.

Tony Craig's deflected block looped over the goalkeeper for an easy tap-in to break the deadlock eight minutes after the restart, but Thompson saved it late on with a brilliant run before the end.

Here’s how News Shopper rated Millwall’s players…

David Martin – 6 – Made rudimentary saves in the first half and beaten by a good curling effort for the first. Made a bizarre save after the restart and unfortunate for the second goal.

Mahlon Romeo – 7 – Productive on both ends of the pitch. Made solid recoveries in defence and contributed with some good, threatening crosses into the box.

Jason Shackell – 6 – A decent debut. Made a brilliant sliding block in the first half near to the six-yard box when Rochdale attacked. Later substituted for Morison on 58 mins.

Jake Cooper – 5 – Calvin Andrew as a handful and proved it both on the ground and in the air. Not Cooper’s best game. Looked uncomfortable against Andrew.

Tony Craig – 5 – Started at left back before being switched to the middle. No glaring mistakes but Rochdale exposed his weaknesses well. Unfortunate for Dale’s second.

Jed Wallace – 7 – Millwall’s best attacker going forward, worked very hard. He didn't see much of the ball but worked well with what he had. Man of the match.

Ben Thompson – 6 - Aggressive and played like a man possessed at times. Had concentration lapses at times defensively. Great run into the box for the equaliser.

Ryan Tunnicliffe – 6 - A little bittersweet. Sometimes he made brilliant passes, other times he made bizarre ones. Similar in defence. Substituted for Shaun Williams.

Shane Ferguson – 7 - Really helped out Craig at the back with his tracking back and awareness to intercept, made some very good crosses that went wanting.

Fred Onyedinma – 6 – Attacked the defence with his speed and acceleration, which worked well. Won the foul inside the box which gave Millwall the lead.

Tom Elliott – 6 - Not a great performance. His holding up play started off poor but got better, and his shots were either saved quite easily or blocked last-minute.
