Charlton boss Karl Robinson has praised Josh Magennis despite his scoring drought.
Magennis hit the post and missed other chances to make it 14 games without a goal as the Addicks beat Walsall on Saturday.
And it’s seen the Northern Ireland striker, 27, come in for harsh criticism from fans in recent weeks.
Robinson told News Shopper: “Sometimes when we've got the likes of Stephy [Mavididi], Tariqe [Fosu] and Marshy [Mark Marshall], I think they take tremendous pressure off the striker.
“But also, we need another striker in for when it’s not going right. Maybe he needs to take a step back and look at things in a different light. He’s been sensational.
“His mentality around the training ground has been excellent. He works hard every single day to try to improve himself.
“But at the moment he’s a bit of a battering ram, we’re going through a difficult period in the winter where pitches aren't as nice as we expect - and Josh Magennis is invaluable for that.
“We’d like him to score more goals, but it’s not just about his goals, it’s about his work ethic and dedication and he gives us a tremendous attitude.”
