Millwall have started 2018 with a defeat after Norwich City came back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Carrow Road.

Captain Steve Morison scored on the stroke of half-time from some 30 yards out to stun the Canaries support, giving the Lions hope of their first away win this season.

But the goal appeared to spring the home side into action as Tom Trybull scored from a set-piece seven minutes after the restart before James Maddison slotted home 13 minutes from time.

Here’s how News Shopper rated Millwall’s players…

Jordan Archer – 6 – Saved two dangerous efforts from Pritchard and Murphy early in the first half, but the two goals were struck well.

Mahlon Romeo – 6 – Had a difficult afternoon against Josh Murphy, who was one of Norwich’s best performers. A tough one-on-one battle for him, so hit and miss.

Jake Cooper – 6 – Probably didn’t do enough to stop Nélson Oliveira’s header in and let Tom Trybull get in front of him for the equaliser. Not his best afternoon.

Shaun Hutchinson – 7 – Dealt with Nélson Oliveira most of the afternoon and restricted his influence well. An outing consistent with how he has been this season.

James Meredith – 6 – Looked a little rash at times and caught out of position. Got a shot off on goal after getting deep into Norwich’s half and made some good interceptions.

Fred Onyedinma – 6 – Contributed more to Millwall’s shape, as expected, but did not threaten his enough. Eventually replaced by O’Brien.

Shaun Williams – 6 – Not able to keep pace with James Maddison for Norwich’s James Maddison for the second and recovered reasonably well after a difficult opening 20 minutes.

George Saville – 6 – Partnered well with Williams in the middle of the field. Played a beautiful long-range pass into Morison, but Alex Pritchard was a handful most of the game.

Ryan Tunnicliffe – 6 – Had a great chance near the half hour mark with a cushioned header by Morison but snatched at it. Pritchard and Maddison made him sweat.

Steve Morison – 7 – Lead the line well with his physical presence. His shot should have been saved in truth, but still a great goal. Had Tunnicliffe scored, he would have had an assist.

Lee Gregory – 6 – Contributed well to the team performance, but little attacking presence. Most notably let the ball go past him to a man he thought was there after a cross from Morison.
