Joe Dodoo’s disappointing loan spell at Charlton has come to an end.

The Rangers striker was signed on deadline day to rival Josh Magennis for a starting berth.

But Dodoo made just five league appearances from the bench.

And Addicks manager Karl Robinson often played academy graduate Reeco Hackett-Fairchild ahead of the former Leicester man.

Robinson told News Shopper: “Sometimes there are decisions I’ve had to make, maybe I’ve been a bit harsh on him [Dodoo]. But that’s just part and parcel of football.

“When we brought him in, I’ll be honest with you, I’ve gone with Reeco. He’s ours. So if I’m going to put somebody on for 15 minutes, he's a Charlton Athletic graduate and that’s the DNA of the football club.

“So if a young player comes in, he has to be as good to play week in, week out. And if I think he [Hackett-Fairchild] is nearly the same [quality as Dodoo], the academy graduate gets the head start.

“That’s been my belief for the last nine years as a manager. I’d rather play homegrown players - and it’s also what we believe in as a football club.”
