Neil Harris has defended his strikers ahead of tomorrow's crucial game against Hull.

Lee Gregory, Steve Morison, Fred Onyedinma and Tom Elliott have scored six goals between them in the 2017/18 campaign so far.

The Lions have created numerous chances in most games, but have been thwarted by in-form goalkeepers.

Tom Elliott replaced Steve Morison to partner Lee Gregory in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday - and Harris insists he is happy with the Lions’ frontline options.

The Millwall boss told News Shopper: “Steve is 34, he can’t play every game. He knows that.

“Tom’s been in really good form. All the forwards have played well when they've played, we’re just lacking goals.

“It’s just getting that balance between playing well as an individual and the team playing well but also having that goal threat up top.

“My forwards know they're always going to get my trust and respect. In this team you’ll get opportunities with the way we play. It’s about them being ruthless and taking those opportunities.”

Morison, coming off the back of two prolific seasons in League One, is yet to score for Millwall this term.

Elliott was sidelined for just under two months with a quad muscle injury, which saw Morison start seven successive league games.

When asked if the veteran striker’s form was affected during that time, Harris said: “Hugely. We ran Steve into the ground and he got injured. It was unfortunate. That came down to Tom getting a freak injury.

“Then Steve continually put himself up [for selection], when we talked about resting him, he didn't want a rest, he wanted to play and we ran him into the ground.

“So I have to find that balance between picking the right players in the right games. Every game is different.

“Tom might play two games in a row, Steve might wait then play for a few. It’s the same for Fred and Lee.

“What I do know is when they've played, the majority of the time they've played well. They just haven't got the goal return that, at the moment, we’re after.”
