Tariqe Fosu’s first-half goal was enough to see off a resilient Doncaster side.

In a very open game, both sides had numerous chances to score, with Donny hitting the crossbar.

But the win for the Addicks moves them up to fifth in League One.

Karl Robinson made just one change to the side that beat Fleetwood, with returning skipper Chris Solly replacing Naby Sarr.

After an injury to influential Donny midfielder James Coppinger, Charlton took the lead in the ninth minute.

Fosu’s fifth goal in three games came about when he let fly from just outside the box, and his effort beat Rovers goalkeeper Ian Lawlor at the front post.

The Addicks continued to dominate possession as Doncaster, initially, failed to respond to the setback.

They were nearly level in the 26th minute when John Marquis picked out strike partner Alfie May, whose speculative shot struck the crossbar.

Fosu’s 30-yard free-kick almost doubled Charlton’s advantage, but Lawlor did well to push it away from danger. And Lawlor was needed just seconds later to hold Josh Magennis’ fierce header.

The Addicks had a golden chance to extend their lead as Jay Dasilva’s terrific run ended with the left-back playing Ricky Holmes through on goal, but the winger shot straight at Lawlor.

Fosu then picked the ball up and went down under Andrew Butler’s challenge - referee Robert Lewis blew his whistle - and booked the former Reading man for diving.

Lewis was the pantomime villain in the first-half, and left the pitch to a chorus of boos from the Valley faithful.

There was a seven-minute stoppage at the start of the second-half after Magennis inadvertently ran into Lewis, who was replaced by fourth official Craig Hicks.

Donny reminded the Addicks of their offensive threat as Marquis fired over from close-range just before the hour mark.

But then Charlton squandered four opportunities in quick succession. Billy Clarke’s header was headed onto the crossbar, Magennis had two goal-bound strikes blocked, before Clarke fired over.

Donny’s threat was still there, though, and should have scored when Tommy Rowe directed his header straight at Ben Amos.

Lawlor was in top form for Donny and denied Magennis and Ahmed Kashi long-range efforts.

Doncaster really pressed for an equaliser as the second-half wore on, however, Charlton just about held on.
