Crystal Palace stalwart Damien Delaney says the club need to turn their season around.

The Eagles have lost their opening seven games and are bottom of the Premier League. They have shipped 17 goals while failing to score.

Palace will be without Christian Benteke until December after the striker injured his knee, while star man Wilfried Zaha is struggling to prove his fitness.

And Delaney, who started in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, said: “Nine goals conceded in two weeks is not good enough.

“But we need to be conscious that we still have 31 games left and it will hopefully not be too long before our players return from injury.

“Once we get some of the lads back we can start doing what we know we are capable of because our first seven games have just not been good enough.”

Delaney lined up in the Eagles defence because of an injury to Scott Dann.

It was only the 36-year-old’s second start of the season.

He added: “It is good to be back from a personal point of view but results wise, it’s about sticking together, rolling our sleeves up and realising the size of the task we have ahead of us.

“The run of games we have had is not ideal but we have had tougher mountains to climb at this football club in the past.

“First and foremost, we must get back on the training ground and get ourselves prepared for the challenge ahead.”
