Josh Magennis recognises Charlton are short of bodies in the striker department.

Rangers loanee Joe Dodoo is the only other senior striker at the club following the summer departures of Lee Novak and Tony Watt.

And Dodoo’s previous experience in the Football League came in a brief loan spell with Bury in 2015.

Charlton’s failure to bring in a striker on a permanent deal has increased the pressure on Magennis to perform.

And the Addicks’ first-choice number nine is in red-hot form, netting four goals in seven league games.

But when asked about Charlton’s reliance on him due to the lack of depth up front, Magennis said: “It’s obviously going to be hard. It just adds on the pressure.

“I’m going to try to stay in as much form as I can - it’s nearly impossible to play your best football every week.

“But if that’s what the gaffer needs, it’s up to me to step up and make sure the decision he made to limit the amount of strikers he brought in was the right one. People can lose form and get injured but that’s part and parcel of the game.

“The gaffer brought in Joe in that department and even young Reeco [Hackett Fairchild] who’s on the up.

“People don't see him that much on Saturday but Monday to Friday, he’s making great strides forward.

“On the outside, people were expecting a big signing, but internally the gaffer has complete confidence in the players.

“It’s put the pressure on us to make sure we’re doing everything we can to make sure we can keep people who have questioned it at bay and just keep trying to score every week.”
